vGRID SSL VPN - User setup

Below is the article on how to:

1. Provision local SSL VPN user account on a vGRID virtual firewall that is used within a hosted environment.
2. Setup the SSL VPN client on a windows PC or laptop to connect to your hosted environment.

Please note that is based on the standard vGRID configuration.  And additional configuration / setup with two factor authentication are not covered by this article. 

STEP 1:   Create the user logins on the Firewall

Log into your vGRID Virtual Firewall (Sophos)

Go to Configuration > Authentication menu and click on it

Go to Configuration > Authentication menu and click on it

Click on the "Users" tab and then the "Add" button

Enter the Username [login name] Enter the Name [display name] Enter the password Enter the same password again for confirmation Under Group *, select the group 'SSLVPN_Users' Click Save at the bottom of the screen

STEP 2: Setup SSL VPN on users PC

Download the Sophos Connect client

1. Sign in to the VPN portal.
2. Go to VPN.
3. Under Sophos Connect client, click Download for Windows.
4. Click the downloaded file to install the Sophos Connect client on your device.
5. Double-click the client and install it.

Download the configuration file

1. On the VPN portal, under VPN configuration, click Download configuration for Windows, macOS, Linux for one of the following options:
   • Use with Sophos Connect and OpenVPN Connect v2 clients: Supports the Sophos Connect client and OpenVPN Connect 2.0 clients.
   • Use with OpenVPN Connect v3 clients: Supports the OpenVPN Connect 3.0 clients.
2. You'll download the .ovpn configuration file.

Note:  You can see the SSL VPN configuration files for download only if your administrator has configured a remote access SSL VPN policy for you.

Import the configuration file to the client

1. Click the Sophos Connect client on your endpoint and click Import connection.
2. Select the .ovpn configuration file you've downloaded.   Here's an example of an imported connection:  
3. Click Connect to sign in.
4. Enter your VPN portal username and password
5. Enter the verification code if required.
6. Click Sign in.
7. This establishes the remote access SSL VPN connection. Future connections are established automatically.
